The walktax is a classic instrument to measure distances in the field by spooling a hairline.

[edit] Handling

  1. Spool the hairline 4 times around the rubber wheel,
  2. Fix the line at the starting point and start to inspect the desired distance,
  3. Read the distance directly from the counter. To start a new measurement, the counter can directly be reset.

The original hairline can be left in the forest as it decomposes quickly and is not dangerous for animals.
