Error propagation in polygon chain measurement
From AWF-Wiki
The error propagation depends on the type of angles which are measured.
With the compass, the direction is obtained for each mensuration separately and independent from preceding mensurations. An inaccurate determination of the direction angle therefor only results in a parallel displacement of the polygonal chain. The individual segments should thus be kept relatively short, so that the total displacement due to inaccurate angle measurement stays relatively low.
