File Transfer

Copy the folder grassdata.zip from T:\\ufobi7\trans\wml\qgis1011\data to your homes drive U:\\ufobi7\homes and extract the archive.

GRASS Mapset

Most of the time we work in the following GRASS mapset:

Gisdbase: ../grassdata

mapset: user1

Using the CIP pool computers of the faculty of forest sciences

You need authentication to login into the computers of the CIP pools 1, 2 and 3, Büsgenweg 4. If you do not have an account, please contact our system administrator Dr. R. Meyer (office close to CIP 1, Büsgenweg 4, Tel. 0551-39-3466, rmeyer@uni-forst.gwdg.de).

Using Windows XP

Login in with your username and password. Go to the lower left of the desktop: Start → Systemsteuerung → Regions- und Spracheinstellungen

Change the language if you do not want to keep the German settings for Windows. Log off and login again. Windows speaks your preferred language now. To start QGIS, double click on the QGIS icon.

  2. Open the folder and double-click on Setup file osgeo4w-setup.exe to start the installation.
  3. Choose Desktop Fast Installation
  4. Browse to the path where you want to have Quantum installed or take the default: C:\OSGeo4W and click For all users
  5. Under “Choose Packages” please unmark the checkboxes “uDig” and “OpenEV”. Go on and wait until all files are copied.
  6. A link with a yellow Q called "Quantum GIS 1.5.0 " should appear on the desktop. Delete the other icon links on the desktop called "Mysys", “OsGeo4W” and "Grass".
  7. Start Quantum GIS by double clicking on the accordant icon.
